Scotch Whiskey Tasting
Fremont wine and whiskey bar The Barrel Thief will be pouring ⅓ ounce samples of aged scotch, including 31-year-old Strathmill and some 100 percent Islay by Kilchoman. If any tickle your fancy enough for a full pour, you'll receive half off the price. Spaces for the $40 event are extremely limited—reserve your spot online.
THURSDAY, April 17
Brassica Cooking Class
Cookbook author Laura B. Russell will be at Book Larder to share tips and recipes from her new book, Brassicas: Cooking the World's Healthiest Vegetable (I suppose with a name like B. Russell it's only a matter of time before you write a book on brassicas). The $40 class fee includes samples of Russell's recipes and a signed copy of her book. Reservations are available online. Olaiya Land and Rachael Coyle will also be teaching cooking classes at the Book Larder this week
FRIDAY, April 18
Hop Scotch Festival
This beer and scotch festival will be happen on the 18th and 19th at Fremont Studios. It will feature a tasting room with over 50 microbrews, ciders, and wine, a number of scotch workshops, some whiskey and scotch flights, and a tax-free bottle shop. Lumpia World food truck will be on-site to sate any drunchies that may arise. Tickets range from $40–$60 and are available online.
TUESDAY, April 22
Oso Fundraiser
Donations have been coming fast and furious, but the people affected by the Oso mudslide really need cash to fund rebuilding efforts. So cash is what Tom Douglas is aiming for in the major fundraising event his company is putting on with K Vintners, the Huxley Wallace Collective, and Ethan Stowell restaurants. The event at the Palace Ballroom will feature wine samples from 18 different vineyards as well as a silent auction and, obviously, lots of good food. Bruce Pavitt of Sub Pop Records will be in charge of tunes. Those who wish to help but can't make it to the event can donate tickets to community college culinary students. Tickets cost $100 and all proceeds go toward the United Way of Snohomish County.
